Título: Giant Flying Boat Turned Over to Transport ...
Original vintage news agency photograph (International News Photo), 8" X 10", New York, NY, 1934 July 3. Very good. Mild bit of slight edgewear and slight age toning. This image depicts seven men standing full-length at dockside before a bank of microphones, with a portion of a large plane looming behind them. The original mimeographed caption sheet, printed on cheap acidic paper, is still present and surprisingly free of edge tears and chips, though lightly age toned as expected. Titled "Giant Flying Boat Turned Over to Transport Company," this text reads in part: "Bridgeport, Conn. These men participated in the ceremonies here today (July 3), at which the giant Sikorsky flying boat 'S-42' was formally turned over to the Pan-American Airways. Colonel Lindbergh, and the test pilots of the builders, and the PAA, put the monster ship thru its paces and were impressed by its performances." Lindbergh, in white suit and tie, stands third from left among the group, aeronautical engineeer Igor Sikorsky (best known as the helicopter developer) third from right. Handsome and quite uncommon vintage photograph of the famed aviator. This would have been sent out by INP to major newspapers of the day along with the suggested headline headline and caption for possible inclusion; few of the original glossies survive.
