Título: Autograph Manuscript Signed.

Ejemplar firmado: Signed by Author(s)

This Nebraska-born poet introduced long-time friend Charles Wakefield Cadman to "Amerindian music" around 1906 and achieved her greatest fame as his librettist, composing the lyrics to his bestselling "At Dawn" (1906) and the most famous Amerindian song of all time, "From the Land of the Sky-blue Water" (immortalized in the 1960s by Hamm's Beer as their commercial jingle); when Cadman's opera "Shanewis" premiered at the Metropolitan Opera in 1918, it achieved three firsts -- the first American opera with a contemporary American setting, the first American opera with a libretto by a woman and the first American opera to be performed a second season. AMS, 1p, 7¼" X 11", n.p. [Chicago, IL], n.y. [1927 January 25]. Near fine. Light original mailing folds. On a sheet of high-quality pale grey stationery, Eberhart writes out three eight-line stanzas, titling this song lyric "Maya" at the top and signing it boldly at the bottom (where she also notes that "Maya" was published by Munsey in September 1920). She also inscribes it at lower left to Professor Albert Johannsen, the reknowned scholar and author of "The House of Beadle and Adams and Its Dime and Nickel Novels" (University of Oklahoma Press, 1950), the definitive bibliography of the subject. Accompanied by a printed document, 1p, 5½" X 8½", New York, NY, n.y. [1926]. Near fine. Light original mailing folds. Publisher Harold Vinal's printed announcement of the publication of Eberhart's work "From the Land of the Sky-blue Water and Other Songs for Music," at the bottom of which she inks in bold purple "Lyon & Healy, Chicago" -- apparently this title was also published in the Midwest by this sheet music publisher. Also present is the original mailing envelope, addressed to Johannsen in type; on the verso, Eberhart signs her last name only and her Chicago address. Johannsen's original 8½" X 13" collection folder, with his printed "Collection of Albert Johannsen" label (filled in by Johannsen) at upper left, is also included. A lovely assemblage of items. Quite uncommon. N° de ref. de la librería 18016
