The Ten Broeck Academy, in Franklinville, New York, was founded in 1862 as a preparatory school. Many of it students went on to colleges such as Syracuse University and Alfred University. In this March 1890 Issue of the student-produced "Ten Broeck Observer" , the newsletter was still only called "Ten Broeck". the paper is an amalgam of school and local news, and student essays. Of note in this issue is an essay by Sadie A. Hogg on Roscoe Conkling, the New York Senator from Utica New York. It is an essay in strong admiration for the powerful lawyer / politician. There are a goodly number of local advertisements . these are found on the front and rear covers, and the last two pages of the newsletter. This seems to be the only specimen being offered for sale online. ******************************************* CONDITION - VERY GOOD - Clean and attractive , with the following noted EXTERIOR : Mild surface rub and a touch of weathering; There is a touch of smudging, a bit of minute spotting, and some surface rumple, as well as a few vague vertical creases (as if the issue had been lightly rolled); there is a corner crease at the bottom fore-edge which follows through the issue . else clean / BINDING : Still solid and intact. / INTERIOR : There are a couple of penciled x marks, else clean and attractive with but mild signs of handling.
