This is a fine copy of the sixth issue of the modern era Granta, which like all of the early issues published in the five years or so following the rebirth of the magazine in 1979, is now rare and hard to find, especially in such well-preserved condition, remarkably so for a forty-year old paperback. The text block is square and tightly bound; there are no marks or inscriptions of any kind; the colours of the wraparound artwork on the cover remain bright and strong with no fading; and there are no tears, chips or unwanted creases though there is a small indentation near the bottom right corner of the front cover: not readily visible except from certain angles and can be felt with a fingertip. With regard to the literary contents, the editor says in the introduction that it is imperative that we have a literature and a language that is an adversary of oppression and not an accomplice to it, and that the collection presented in the book is dedicated to the possibilities of engagement and to a different understanding of what constitutes political literature.
