This is a collection of 14 issues of "THE CURRENT" magazine from 1887. The issues range in date from January 1, 1887 to September 24, 1887. Published by The Current Publishing Co. in Chicago. Each magazine contains works of prose and poetry; other sections include "Comment," "Books and Authors," "Music and the Drama," "Through the Loopholes," and "Books and Readers" - the sections vary depending on the issue. (The "Books and Authors" section includes announcements of new/upcoming books by notable authors of the day such as Walt Whitman, Mark Twain, Leo Tolstoy, Robert Louis Stevenson, Thomas Wentworth Higginson, Henry James, Kate Greenaway, Emile Zola etc.). Also included are illustrated advertisements at the front and back of the issues. The magazine was published weekly - the following 14 weeks are included: JANUARY 1, 15, 22; JUNE 4, 11, 25; JULY 2, 30; AUGUST 13, 20, 27; SEPTEMBER 3, 17, 24. Condition: The lot is in overall Very Good condition with only some light wear as would be expected. Occasional light foxing to the pages and covers. Here are notable issues found: Jan 1 - there are a few markings/notations in pencil, and pen lines. Jan 15 - the front cover has pulled from the bottom staple and has a piece missing at the top-right corner. Jan 22 - small stain at the lower-inner corner of the front & back covers. June 4 - small tear at the center of the outer page edges from the front cover through the first 2/3 of the pages. July 30 - tear at the top-right front cover corner. Sep 3 - small tear at the bottom edge of the front cover; small tears at the top edge of 293 & 295. Three issues have a "Purdue University" address label affixed to the front cover.
