The Bookman was the house magazine of Hodder & Stoughton and this is a copy of the Special Xmas Number , 1918. This large format (33 x 22 cms) publication has 120 pages followed by a 132-page supplement. A vast range of literature is dealt with and there are numerous period trade adverts. Of particular interest to JB collectors is a one-and-a-half-page article by David Hodge entitled John Buchan as War Historian, which includes a photograph of John Buchan. The front cover bears a picture of John Buchan in military uniform. The magazine is bound in brown card. The front cover is creased around the edges and scuffed; the spine is worn with pieces missing at the ends; the rear cover is missing. Internally the magazine, printed on semi-gloss paper, is very bright but quite a lot of page corners are turned. All the portraits appear to be present. The portfolio of colour portraits is not with the magazine. N° de ref. del artículo 9601
