Les quinze livres de la métamorphose d'Ovide interprétés en rime francaise selon la phrase latine par Francois Habert d'Issoudun (Paris, Hierosme de Marnes, 1580). 12mo (110 x 85mm), 959, (16). Woodcut printer's device on title page and colophon, numerous woodcut illustrations throughout. 18th century calf, rebacked with original spine laid down. Spine divided by gilt-ruled raised bands into six compartments, compartments richly tooled in gilt, black morocco label, gilt-lettered, in second compartment, elaborately gilt-tooled inner dentelles, all edges gilt. Wear and scuffing to boards and spine, ffep. loose, edges trimmed with occasional loss of marginal text. Very rare. Francois Habert was a prominent poet and translator of the French renaissance, and court poet during the reign of Francois 1er. Other texts translated by Habert include Horace, Ausonius renderings of the sayings of the Seven Sages of Greece, and the Chaldean Oracles of 'Zoroaster'. N° de ref. del artículo ABE-1670476992419
