The duplication of DIESTERWEG's collection of autobiographies, published in 1835 and 1836 with the title: 'The pedagogical Germany of the present' is the result of two essential aspects, namely the intendend function of advice for educators in the contemporary-historic discourse and the reflection of development trends in the history of education at the turning point to the modern age. The circumstances of schooling, presented to the posterity in a very specific way, explain the complexity as well as the complicated nature of the struggle for effectiveness and quality in the process of establishing a daily routine of suitable and practical pedagogy for children and young persons of all social classes, influenced by the sense of the Enlightenment. Reformorientated educationalists (both theoreticians and practitioners) essentially agreed that elementary schooling, as well as grammar schooling, were in such incredibly bad conditions that they were not to be reconciled with demands on people's enlightenment. That result obviously encouraged the commitment of these educationalists, introduced by DIESTERWEG's collection of autobiographies, who understood their profession, without any expectation, as their vocation, aimed for an improvement in the system of education. In the particular case, and independent from the used way of professional development the permanently advanced vocational training, even still after a long period of considerable teaching experiences, was significant for the observed characters, and extended from attending so called reading-study groups to going on educational trips. This specific development in the further education of educators corresponds partly with active publication of writings about pedagogical and methodical-didactic topics, including papers about individual experiences. Die Duplizität der DIESTERWEG"schen Sammlung von Selbstbiographien, erschienen 1835 und 1836 unter dem Titel "Das pädagogische Deutschland der Gegenwart", resultiert aus zwei essentiellen Aspekten, nämlich der intendierten Ratgeberfunktion für Erziehende im zeitgeschichtlichen Diskurs und der Spiegelung von bildungsgeschichtlichen Entwicklungstendenzen an der Wende zur Moderne. Die auf diese spezifische Weise auch der Nachwelt präsentierten Schulverhältnisse verdeutlichen sowohl die Komplexität als auch die Kompliziertheit des Ringens um Effektivität und Qualität im Prozess der Etablierung einer im Sinne der Aufklärung beeinflussten alltagstauglichen praktischen Pädagogik für Kinder und Jugendliche aller gesellschaftlichen Schichten. Reformorientierte Schulpolitiker und Schulpraktiker waren sich im Wesentlichen darin einig, dass die Zustände insbesondere des Elementarschulwesens, aber auch der hà heren Schulen mit dem Anspruch einer Volksaufklärung nicht länger zu vereinbaren waren. Dieser Befund stimulierte sichtlich das Engagement der durch die DIESTERWEG"sche Sammlung vorgestellten Schulmänner, die ihre pädagogische Tätigkeit durchweg als Berufung auffassten. Im Einzelnen waren ihre Anstrengungen und deren Ergebnisse an die Schulsituation vor Ort in den unterschiedlichen deutschen Bildungsräumen gebunden. In jedem Fall und unabhängig vom beschrittenen Ausbildungsweg war für die betrachteten Persà nlichkeiten selbst noch nach langjähriger Berufstätigkeit ständige Fortbildung, von der Teilnahme an Lesezirkeln bis hin zu Bildungsreisen, kennzeichnend. Sie korrespondiert mit teils reger Publikationstätigkeit insbesondere zu pädagogischen und methodisch-didaktischen Gegenständen. Inbegriffen sind dabei Darstellungen eigener Erfahrungen. Alles in allem präsentieren die 15 Autobiographen einen Mikrokosmos, mit dem die Vielfalt von Bildungs- und Schulverhältnissen im à bergang zur Moderne eindrucksvoll sichtbar wird.
