There are times when we cannot help smiling at the amazement produced in certain quarters when it becomes necessary to purchase machinery or other supplies where the terms are made cash, ten. thirty, or sixty days, and if the goods are not paid for in that time, a very-trong reminder is sent to the purchaser that he will be expected to live up to the terms made. This is a lesson as to how outside business is done, and it is a method which can be applied to the granite monumental industry if all combine with this idea in view. The haphazard way of granting credits has to do with the dark ages, and for the future should have no place in the granite industry, and cannot, if a firm desires to remain in business, for it will be necessary to pay the help once a week, and this means that collections will have to be made promptly and credits more closely scrutinize 1 than ever before; and we would strongly suggest a system of discounts. This has been suggested by us before, and we would suggest it again as not only advisable but absolutely necessary. THE MEETING OF THE NATIONAL RETAIL MONUMENTAL DEALERS' ASSOCIATION As will be noted on another page, the meeting of the National Retail Dealers' Monument Association will be held August 26-28 at Chicago. It is expected that this will be the largest meeting in the history of this organization. This is based upon the fact that sixteen retail associations have been organized during the year, all of which will send delegates to the meeting, and there will be many retail dealers present who are anxious to improve through contact with each otner. The retail dealers have the chance of their lifetime to improve their condition, which certainly needs improving. ...
