Part I introduces readers to teaching and learning history, geography and environmental studies, and civics and citizenship, as well as issues in intercultural and global education. Part II explores the use of media and sources, values and attitudes, assessment and creative teaching. Each chapter provides links to the Australian Curriculum, including cross-curriculum priorities: sustainability, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education, and Asia and Australia's engagement with Asia. History, Geography and Civics encourages the reader to consider their own beliefs, values and attitudes in relation to their teaching and includes provocations and reflective questions to foster discussion and engagement.
Biografía del autor:
Dr John Buchanan is an Associate Professor in Social and Environmental Education at the University of Technology, Sydney, where he also coordinates International Programs. His main teaching and research interests include intercultural education, including studies of religion and transitions, geography and environmental education, civics and citizenship education, and global and regional studies. He is a past president and journal editor of the NSW Primary HSIE (Human Society and its Environment) Teachers' Association. He has won university, state and national awards in teaching, and has undertaken commissioned research in various fields of the humanities, such as sustainability education, civics education and intercultural education.
