About the Author:
Born on Valentine's Day in Chicago, Royal Phillips, was an international childbirth instructor and doula for 36 years before retiring to Waynesville, NC in the Smoky Mountains. The mother of three, birth mother of one, grandmother of five, has devoted her life to the joy and dignity of parenthood. She is a published author, photographer, world traveler and avid SCUBA diver. Royal is an alumnus of The University of New Mexico and an accredited instructor and labor coach from the American Institute of Family Relations, Los Angeles. At one time, a columnist for The Montecito Journal and a contributor to the Santa Barbara News Press, she has taught and lectured in the United States, the Middle East, Central America, Europe, Indonesia and Australia. She created and produced, Prince for a Day, a documentary about small boys being circumcised on the island of Sumbawa. She also authored an award winning screenplay, Incommunicado, based on her experience of being a hostage in the Zapatista war in Chiapas.
