Each entry has the recipe, a colour photograph and notes on the history, fishing technique and any good variations of the pattern. "The tremendous growth of stillwater trout fishing in the last twenty years had produced a new dimension in fly fishing. Starting from the loch traditions, new methods and techniques have been developed. Both the beginner and the experienced angler now have at their disposal an immense number of flies, most of which have been specially devised to operate in stillwater. The author has brought together in this alphabetical guide most of those flies, and thus provided the angler with an invaluable reference work. Lures, imitative patterns and more traditional flies are all included and an outstanding feature of the book is the placing of the colour photographs of the flies adjacent to their entries.
