Irish Decorative Arts, 1550-1928 [Idioma Inglés] - Tapa blanda

The National Museum of Ireland was a major participant in "The Treasures of Early Irish Art" exhibition, mounted at several American venues from 1977 to 1979 and in an "Irish Silver" exhibition, which toured other centres in the early 1980s. Now, in presenting this new exhibition, it is hoped to further the interest in the wealth of Irish achievement and tradition in the decorative arts over the last three centuries. This exhibition consists of articles made in Ireland from the 17th to the early 20th century. The pieces selected demonstrate the breadth of the collections in our National Museum which has been actively acquiring pieces since its establishment in 1877. It should be realised that the exhibits include products such as Waterford Glass and Belleek Pottery, which are still being manufactured. Our hope is that having seen the exhibition, visitors will be inspired to come to Ireland and to the Decorative Arts Museum, which is proposed for Dublin, to expand their knowledge of and interest in our achievements in this aspect of Irish culture. The catalogue has been written by John Teahan, Keeper of the Art and Industrial Division of the National Museum, Mairead Dunlevy and Michael Kenny and was edited by John Teahan. The exhibition has been organised by the National Museum of Ireland, and the Smithsonian Institution Travelling Exhibition Service with the assistance of the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs, and our national airline, Aer Lingus.
