The introduction to this "illustrated essay" states that Old St Paul's Anglican church in Wellington is probably the most significant historic building in New Zealand and possibly the finest structure of its kind in the world. Unique features include "rare craftmanship" expressed in its timber facade and interior, its harmonious blend of artistry and sanctity, grandeur and tranquility, being "truly a cathedral among churches." Completed in 1866 the church was "lovingly restored" to all it former magnificence. The book was published to mark the completion of the restoration. Apart from a two page history the book consists mainly of photographs showing exterior and interior views of the restored church. One of a limited edition of 1000 copies printed in 1981. From an education library but with minimal markings. 88 pages, colour and b/w photos throughout, many full page, others with multiple images plus plans. Red hard covers with gilt front titles/decoration VG with faint residue from removed labels lower covers adjacent spine, library stamp title page verso, ink codes top edge, no markings through text block, codes label/bar code/issue sheet residue RFEP and card pocket rear pastedown.
