Handset in Caslon Old Face and printed on hand-made paper in editions of 120 copies. Decorated with type ornaments and a few reproductions of woodcuts. Sewn into buff printed paper wrappers with overlaps. In fine condition. George Ratcliffe Woodward (sometime Scholar of Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge), did not turn to printing until he was in his seventies, after a lifetime's work in the church. His texts, of which 33 are known, were a curious mixture of Christian and pagan verse, and all either by, or 'englished by' him. (1) Good-Friday and Easter-Day Couplets, (2) Theokritos: Idyllion XI Kyklops Polyphemos, (3) The Story of Kleobis and Biton, (4) Greek Anthology: Beauty-Epigrams. Turned into English Verse. (5) Tart and Homely Gibes, (6) Some Remnamts of Greek Comedy, (7) Greek Epigrams on and by Famous Poets and Musicians, (8) A Bunch of Grapes from Ancient Greek Vineyards, crushed into English Measures, (9) The Story of Arion and the Dolphin, (10) Greek Witticisms told in English Verse, (11) Epigrams on Sappho and other famous Greek Lyric Poetesses, (12) A Garland of Spiritual Flowers, (13) Tales of Sea-Sorrow from The Greek Anthology (See: John E. Barnes, George Ratcliffe Woodward, 1848-1934, Priest, Poet and Musician.). N° de ref. del artículo 2241
