This book consists of a series of lectures given by the author in the Jesuit Church, St. Francis Xavier's, Gardiner Street, Dublin, during lent of 1909. *Born in Youghal, Co. Cork, John Gwynn (1866-1915) was a Jesuit priest and an eloquent preacher with a strong interest in societal conditions. A chaplain to the Irish Guards, He was the first Irish Jesuit chaplain to be killed in the First World War, dying of his wounds while serving at Vermelles, France in 1915. His life is believed to have been blighted by a bi-polar type illness.* Some dusting to covers, otherwise a near fine copy of without any library stamps, inscriptions, or other markings.
