Two volumes. Original brown cloth. 312 & 322pp. Illustrated. First edition. A mixed set of this classic work with Vol. 1 in brown T cloth (Blanck's binding B) with the cover vignette in gold and Vol. 2 in the extra gilt binding (Blanck's binding C) with all cover ornamentation gilt-stamped. Both volumes are first editions with no additional printings listed on the title page, the single imprint of Hobart & Robbins at the foot of the copyright page, and all of the issue points noted in BAL including "see good vittles spilt" p. 42, line 1 in Vol. 1 and "republican's cathecism" p. 74, line 5 in Vol. 2. Each volume has three engraved plates as called for. In terms of condition Vol. 1 is heavily worn with some scuffing and soiling to the covers and some heavy chipping to the spine. The text has some heavy foxing and spotting throughout and a few pages are lightly sprung from the binding though still bound in. Vol. 2 is in better condition with some light scuffing and edgewear to the covers and some chipping to the spine tips. The text is good with some foxing and spotting throughout.
