This interesting book was prepared in 1942 (December 1941 is a specific date on one entry) as a publication to aid in Civilian Defense in wartime. The emphasis seems to be on various types of aerial attacks and civilian defense mobilisation and training. The specific "textbooks" were compiled and bound into one volume titled "Textbooks." The various textbooks are: "First Aid in the Prevention and Treatment of Chemical Casualties," "Fire Protection in Civilian Defense," "Standard School Lectures in Civilian Defense: Series 1, Series 2 & Series 3," "Protection Against Gas" The School Lectures include such things as training, organization, different types of attacks (gas, fire, poison, phosphoros, etc.). Presumably, all these "textbooks" were also issued individually. There are illustrations within each section as well as large folding illustrations. This may have been prepared as a result of the attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec 7, 1941. Original publisher's blue cloth covers with gilt spine and cover lettering. There is some rubbing to the edges and a prevous owner name on the front end paper, else this is a clean, tight and unmarked book with no internal or external markings and no bookplates. This item is quite uncommon and reflects the government's quick action to attempt to arrange for protection of the civilian population of the United States. Please inquire if you would like more information. ; B&W Illustrations, folding diagrams; 8vo, 8"- 9" tall; varies pages. N° de ref. del artículo 20932
