Memoirs of the American Anthropological Association Number 36. Brown paper wrappers with yapp edges and black lettering on cover. Fair condition only. Previous owner placed tape over the spine to repair extensive tears along joints; tape was also placed over the fore-edge of the front wrapper and along the front hinge; moderate chipping and creasing to edges; minor scuffing. Binding is fairly tight. Interior is clean. Name of previous owner, museum curator Barton Wright, is stamped on cover, title page, and final page. Another previous owner's name is written in pen on title page. Includes seven maps, 43 plates, and 19 figures with the text. Also includes 6 folding sheets with genealogies housed in a pocket attached to the inside of the back wrapper. Elsie Clews Parsons (1875-1941) was an influential anthropologist, sociologist, and feminist who was a leading authority on the Native American tribes of the southwestern United States. Based on observations conducted at the Pueblos of San Juan, Santa Clara, San Ildefonso, and Nambé, this monograph details Tewa social structure, ceremonies, rituals, and supernaturals.
