The book is in better than average condition with no restorations other than a neat, professional japanese tissue repair to the inside front hinge (prone to cracking). The book has light soiling covers, light edge rubbing (= some loss of color but rubbing is not through the cloth), solid binding, no foxing except for two small spots on the first page of the index opposite the folding map, no previous owner marks or writing on any pages, complete with all pages, photos, maps. The book measures , 265mm tall x 180mm, and has 408 pages, colored frontispiece, 154 b/w text photos, 31 b/w plates (including 3 folding panoramas), 5 folding maps, index. One of the most finely produced mountaineering books of the period, this is augmented with spectacular, artistic photos by perhaps the greatest mountain photographer of all time, Vittorio Sella.
