This copy differs from the first (1st) printing in the following respects: (1) no title or design on the front cover; (2) no date on the title page; (3) no printer listed on the copyright page; (4) thinner paper; (5) no advertisements following the text. In all other respects (including color, page count and size), the book is identical, and has the original eight full-page illustrations by Charles Dana Gibson. Fine condition. No Dust Jacket. The Text Block is clean, white (with mildly tanned edges), tight, straight and square with no markings of any kind and creases to bottom of pages from title page to page 2. The Binding is full burgundy cloth (uniform color throughout) with somewhat faded gilt title, etc., to spine, minor wear to head and heel of spine, clean, unmarked endpapers, and all corners square but showing wear at the very tips. See photos. 386 pages. 5 1/4" x 7 1/2". This sequel to The Prisoner of Zenda is also set in the fictional country of Ruritania, the story being told in a framing narrative by a supporting character from the first novel. Once again, Rudolf Rassendyll is called on to impersonate King Rudolf V in this tragic romance. The novel served as the basis for at least two movie adaptations as well as two for television.
