RARE gilded & embossed illustrated hardcover book, sorry no dust-jacket. "Routledge's Every Boy's Annual Illustrated 1882" By various Authors. Edited by Edmund Routledge, F.R.G.S. This is the Fisrt Edition, published by George Routledge and Sons, 1882. Thick & heavy book. 8vo, 24.7 cm x 18 cm x 3.8 cm, Red decorated cloth-covered boards, Gilt, green & black embossed lettering & decoration on spine & front cover, Black embossed decoration on back cover, All edges gilt. 668 pages. Weight: 1.108 Kg. (1108 Grams). CONTENTS ARE ALMOST LIKE NEW!!! However, the Frontispiece is missing, and pages 163/164 and 165/166 are loose with creasing, folds and small tears on all edges. There are several cracks forming in between pages throughout the book, including at front & back of book. Spine is faded & worn, bumped, scuffed & slightly frayed either end, split in cloth from head down alongside front cover, tiny hole in cloth alongside back cover, gilt & colour decoration worn away in places but all visible in detail, gilt a little dull. Cover is slightly marked & has faded/bleached stains round edges on front, back is discoloured, slightly marked and foxed, gilt a bit dull & worn away in places, all gilt & colour embossed decoration visible & beautifully detailed but a little scuffed in places, edges soiled, scuffed & bumped. Corners are bumped & frayed, boards exposed & slightly worn away there. Colour children's transfers on 1st free end paper, blank page before gilt title page, p.280 & last free end paper, some transfers have rubbed off onto adjacent page. Both front & back end papers (1st & free) are slightly marked & creased. Pages 331 to 334 have come loose from top stitch in binding. Page 281 is slightly marked. Some pages (very few) may have faint smudges, and/or faint handling creases, and/or corner folds including at either end of spine area. Reverse of illustration [plate facing p.393 slightly marked. Light age tanning & occasional foxing throughout. RARE ITEM, GENUINE ANTIQUE!!!
