A few bent and/or rough cut pages. Previous owner's name on fep & half-title page is interesting: "Joseph J. Rohlk/ Troop "H" 14th Cavalry./Feb 8, 1903"--otherwise no markings on pages. Besides chronicling the campaign in Cuba, the book's first chapter--"Raising the Regiment"--contains important information about men in the southwest territories of the U.S.--Arizona, New Mexico, Indian Territories (OK) and Texas--wherefrom the majority of the troopers were recruited. Roosevelt names and catalogues thumb-nail sketches of numerous characters--ex-sheriffs, cowpunchers, stage-coach operators, legendary hunters, Cherokees, Creeks, Chickasaws, Texas Rangers, etc.--who joined the venture.
