CONTENTS DESCRIPTION: The 102nd Illinois Infantry was organized at Knoxville, Illinois for three years service on September 1, 1862. As part of the Army of the Cumberland and Army of Georgia, they say engagements during the Atlanta Campaign; Battle of Resaca; Battle of Kennesaw Mountain; Battle of Peachtree Creek; the Siege of Atlanta; Battle of Jonesboro; Sherman's March to the Sea; Carolinas Campaign; and Battle of Bentonville. COULTER 163: "Based on a diary and written immediately after the war, it is an excellent commentary on methods of warfare practiced in Georgia and the Carolinas.
