An unrecorded edition of Charles Jackson's Narrative of his role in the Wexford Rebellion is the star item in this fascinating collection of Dublin imprints from the 1790s. Small octavo-sized volume bound in contemporary half calf over marbled boards with red morocco spine label: 'Tracts'. Endpapers with 1794 dated watermark. The imprints appear as follows: A von Kotzebue [translated by] Anne Plumptre, The Natural Son, A Play, Dublin, H Fitzpatrick, 1798, xii, pp108, half title present; ESTC T59599 19 locations; not Harvard [Arthur Murphy] Know Your Own Mind: a Comedy, 1788, Dublin, A Chamberlaine [8] pp 85 [3] half title present; T29504 12 locations, not Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard or Yale Charles Jackson, A Narrative of the Sufferings and Escape of Charles Jackson, Late Resident at Wexford in Ireland, 1798, Third Edition, Dublin, 1798, [2] x, pp11-90 - seemingly unrecorded third Irish edition (Not OCLC, ESTC, COPAC) of this important account emerging from the Wexford Rebellion which was printed in London, Dublin and Sligo in the immediate aftermath of the traumatic suppression of the rising. All the surviving early Irish editions of this loyalist work are scarce. The First Number of the Report of the Society for Promoting the Comforts of the Poor, Dublin, 1800, William Watson, xii, xxiv, pp72, pp110 [Appendix] ESTC T119239 BL & Irish Academy only Jackson's unrecorded edition of his Narrative is the most significant item in the collection of which we can find no institutional record - several of the early editions seem to have disappeared entirely. No doubt its sensational content contributed to its being devoured on first appearance. The Report with which the volume ends is also rare and fascinating to find it next to Jackson's account.
