Large hand coloured map (repaired), plus 30 plates and charts (9 of which are hand-coloured), the contents only list 30 plates including the map. Single volume. First edition of the official account of Ross's privately-funded second Arctic voyage, resulting in the most extensive exploration of the Boothia Peninsula to date, during which Ross's nephew James Clark Ross became the first to reach the North Magnetic Pole. Two issues of this work are known, a regular issue and a "royal" issue; the latter sometimes referred to as an "Admiralty" or large paper issue. Besides being in slightly larger format, this deluxe issue, which was more expensive when published, contains more colour plates than the regular. This is a regular issue copy.
