Possible First Edition. This volume is missing its title-page and two of the original preface pages. However, we have loosely inserted reasonable facsimiles of these. Additionally, it is missing the fold-out plate of the globe, as called for, and another plate, depicting coconut trees with huts in background. We haven't provided facsimiles for these. However, the original additional engraved title and third plate that are called for are present. The facsimile title page states: Printed by H. Meere, for A. Bettesworth at the Red Lyon in Pater-Noster-Row, and E. Cuell at the Dial and Bible, against St. Dunstan's Church in Fleet Street, 1715. The 2nd Edition of 1720 and the later 1732 make no mention of an additional engraved title page or folding plate, so this is probably the 1715 edition, though we cannot say for certain that it is not a 1720 or 1732 issue. 12mo Hardback. Rebound in brown cloth, with new endpapers. Measures approx. 6.5" x 4" (16.5cm x 10cm). 340pp, plus unpaginated index to rear. The rear blank endpaper states as follows, in blue ink: "This book bought (imperfect in 1901) for two halfpennies 1d was mended Oct 3 1951 by Jeffery Farnol." The remnants of the publisher's advert page have been laid down onto a new backing leaf, ditto the frontispiece. Some worm damage to leaves throughout, with the larger adjoining worm-holes at the beginning having been patched with removable archival paper. These are significant for the first 10 or so pages, thinning out and less in severity thereon. Original binder's twine protruding up a little at hinges beneath cloth. Binding clean and firm. First original preface page has an old faded inscription at upper right margin corner. Tanning to leaves, with marginal water-marking at fore leaf edges. Otherwise, some marking and occasional scuffing to extremities, with the contents remaining clear and bright nonetheless. Please see photos for further detail. N° de ref. del artículo 000005
