Little known memoir from Johnny Otis, the father of Shuggie Otis and the "Godfather of Rhythm and Blues." Otis, a Greek American, grew up in a primarily black neighborhood in Los Angeles and at a young age decided to self-identify as Black. Through this curious lens of self-identification comes this intriguing and stirring book, a memoir as well as cultural analysis, inspired by the Watts uprisings of 1965. The background of this book, his self-imposed dual racial citizenship, can be seen in this reflection on the Watts riots: "Yes, it bothered me a little to see the feed store where Mario and I used to get our supplies for the chickens, and the Largo Theatre where I first saw Little Esther, go up in smoke. But burn, anyhow, dammit, burn!" Very Good (+), light soiling, bottom board slightly bowed, else near fine Good jacket, with 4.95 price intact but clipped corner to bottom of front flap, closed 2" tear to front panel, 1/2" open tear opposite it near spine, else some toning and soiling and edgewear Hardcover 8vo, half mustard cloth over black boards, maroon stamped lettering to top cloth and spine. 256 pp. N° de ref. del artículo 627
