Full leather binding, gilt title, raised bands, gilt decoration to the spine with gilt panel to both boards, armorial book plate, portrait frontispiece. British Library records state Abridged, by Ambrose Philips, from: Hackett, John. Scrinia reserata. Also The penultimate leaf bears "The inscription upon the Archbishop s tomb-stone", written in Latin by John Hackett. . Scarce title. 309pp plus appendix 236pp [i.e.326pp], [4pp]. Approximately 7 ¼ inches tall. Condition Report Externally Spine fair condition gilt title on a red gilt edged label, four raised gilt bands (gilt has rubbed off), five gilt edged compartments, the gilt is very worn, worn top and tail with loss. Joints fair condition rubbed worn and cracked. Corners good condition bumped and worn. Boards good condition full leather boards with gilt border and a decorative gilt panel to the centre of both, marks to the upper board affecting one part of the gilt and the leather, outer edges of the boards are also decorated in gilt albeit worn away in places. Page edges good condition top edge darkened, all speckled, tanned and foxed. See above and photos. Internally Hinges poor condition both hinges are broken boards being held in place by the chords. Paste downs good condition plain, the front paste down has an armorial book plate T. Gaisford, S.T.P , tanned and foxed. End papers good condition plain, heavily tanned and foxed, subsequent end papers also tanned and foxed. Title good condition tanned and foxed, the text is within a black lined border. Pages good condition portrait frontispiece The Most Reverend Father in God John Williams , the pagination of the appendix is incorrect but as called for after page 323, 242, 325, 236, tanned and foxed throughout.
