Descripción
London: Longman, Rees, Orme, Brown & Green, 1831. The Irish musician Thomas Moore (1779-1852) often called "Ireland's National Poet," also wrote nonfiction. Here is a Very Good Plus copy of his biography of Fitzgerald (1763-1798). A member of the Protestant Ascendancy, Fitzgerald had been wounded in the American Revolution, explored Canada, and influenced by the French Revolution, eventually joined the United Irishmen. Arrested, again wounded, he died (supposedly from lack of care) in Newgate Prison. Of such a life are romantic legends made, and Moore is sympathetic to that ideal. This is a Very Good (Plus) copy of the First Edition in a rebind (not modern; having an Edwardian feel to it). Marbled cloth boards with a vellum spine. Titling ion the spine is hand-lettering in red and black. Clean text; 305 pages and 305 pages. Volume Two has a fold-out map of Fitzgerald's route through Canada; the left-hand section of the map has separated, but is present. The corners are bumped to a bit of a fray. A sound copy of an uncommon work, significant in the development of Irish nationalism. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good (Plus)/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. N° de ref. del artículo 002300
