First Edition, 1922. First Issue with the punctuation errors on the first two lines of Poem XXVI on page 52. Fine in Near Fine complete unclipped d.j, with no nicks or losses,just very slight shelf wear,now in protective Brodart-type cover. In publisher's original dark blue cloth with gilt titles to spine and front board and cream d.j. All corners sharp and binding tight and square. A really lovely, clean and crisp copy of 'Last Poems'. Housman was reportedly very annoyed by the punctuation errors , but when his publisher offered to insert an errata slip in the remaining copies, Housman famously responded "No, don't. The blunder will probably enhance the value of the 1st edition in the eyes of bibliophiles, an idiotic class." 'Last Poems' was the second and last of only two volumes of poetry published in Housman's lifetime. It contains one of his best known poems, which appeared first in the Times on 31st October 1917 under a leading article on the anniversary of the First Battle of Ypres(19/10/1914 -22/11/1914) XXXVII. Epitaph on an Army of Mercenaries " These in the day when heaven was falling, The hour when earth's foundations fled, Followed their mercenary calling And took their wages and are dead.
