FIRST EDITION, First Printing, 1940. Small, slim quarto; yellow boards with green titles and illustration to front, titles to spine. At this time, books such as this were being produced under wartime Economy Measures, and consequently of a quality more prone to wear and tear. This copy is bright and clean externally; the corners are lightly bumped and worn, similarly the spine top and tail, with some minor incipient splits, some shelf wear to bottom edge - but overall neat and presentable. Internally, there is the usual browning to eps, but otherwise the contents are tight, bright and clean, free from foxing, markings or inscriptions - enabling the lively, refined drawings to show up well. In recent years Edwards, as with others of his generation, have come to be appreciated more for their spontaneous draughtsmanship than the large commissioned works in oils. This, now uncommon work , exemplifies this. The unclipped (5s NET) dustwrapper is predominantly complete and clean, but has sustained a number of small losses to the spinal region and a small closed tear and triangular loss at top front, next to a pale circular mark which looks as though a small label once covered it. Now protected and enhanced with transparent, removable sleeve. PLEASE SEE FIVE ACCOMPANYING IMAGES. Scarce. FREE p&p within the U.K. Shipping outside U.K.will incur additional appropriate postage cost, as agreed with the purchaser.
