2 volumes, 8vo, pp [12], 560: [2], 561-815, [1], 336, [30, indices], general title page in red and black, separate title pages to the two volumes, engraved frontispiece, 2 plates of multiple images, one folding map, one folding plan of Old Jerusalem, bound in contemporary panelled calf, spine gilt with raised bands and red labels, the spines worn and chipped at ends, the joints cracked, a little weak but holding, internally with minor faults, light bronwing etc, one gathering slightly proud, but generally sound, clean and tight, FIRST EDITION; Curll evidently commisioned Jodocus Crull to abridge L'Estrange's 1702 folio translation of Josephus, and write a continuation. He was thus able to advertise an edition of Josephus at a fraction of the cost of L'Estrange's with the added bonus of a historical continuation. Jodocus Crull, who may have been a German imigrant, but is otherwise obscure though active at this time, went on to write a number of historical works and translations for Curll, and probably died about 1713. Whatever its merits as a work - and this unrestored copy leaves somewhat to be desired, binding wise - it is a scarce set, especially complete with the plan of old Jerusalem present.
