8vo. First edition. Two-volume work dedicated to Simon Bolivar. Each volume with colour frontispiece; large folding map at rear of Vol. II (not facing page 1 Vol. I as listed). pp(4)/XV(1),524/(4) & (4)/VIII,515(1)/(4) including two blank preliminary leaves and two blank final leaves per volume. Vol. I with half-title, Vol. II with no half-title called for. Missing errata leaf of Vol. II. Dark brown speckled edges of text-blocks. Frontispiece of Vol. I lightly & sparsely spotted; verso of preceding leaf (half-title) spotted and with patchy impression in light tan of frontispiece image. Frontispiece of Vol. II also lightly & sparsely spotted; preceding blank preliminary leaf patchily toned. Both title-pages spotted, and with extensive quite deeply toned blotchy offsetting from frontispieces - in Vol. I extending to verso of title-page and with reduced effect to following leaf (dedication, pages V/VI), and in Vol. II extending to verso of title-page. Contents of Vol. I spotted from page 521 to blank final leaf, and with creasing of fore-edge margins of two consecutive leaves, pages 509-512. Text content of both volumes otherwise just here & there sparsely spotted, mainly in margins, and with a number of light upper corner creases confined to margins. Map a little toned in parts, mainly along folds, with some mainly faint offsetting to & from those segments in contact when map folded, and with two very neatly applied paper-strip repairs at verso to splits along folds. Edges of text-blocks toned, top edges quite deeply so. Uniform half calf of the period. Spines with three lightly raised bands, ornate gilt decorations, and titles etc on two maroon morocco labels. Marbled paper-covered boards. Marbled endpapers. Spines lightly rubbed at heads and tails, and slightly so elsewheres. Hinges lightly rubbed; single minor splits from heads of both front and rear hinges of Vol. I. Shelf edges of boards rubbed, other edges and board surfaces lightly so. Tips of lower outer corners a little worn, tips of upper outer corners a little rubbed. Tips of upper outer corner of Vol. I front board and lower outer corner of Vol. II rear board also lightly bumped. Endpapers with splits of variable lengths along hinges, hinges still secure; blank sides of flyleaves at both fronts and rears variably spotted. Bindings holding firmly and of handsome appearance.
