A history of the famed Irish Brigade of the North's Army of the Potomac during the Civil War. Comprised largely of Irish volunteers serving in regiments raised in New York, Boston, and Philadelphia, they were commanded by the "larger-than-life" Gen. Thomas F. Meagher, a youthful leader in the 1848 uprising in Ireland and a lawyer-journalist-publisher in the U.S. at the beginning of the Civil War. This book is particularly strong on the issues and politics leading to the Brigade's formation as well as its service in most of the major battles fought by the Army of the Potomac, including Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg and the Wilderness. Green cloth-covered boards show only a touch of wear at the spine ends and edges, text's top edge slightly soiled, o/w boards and text are clean and unmarked, tight and square, not remaindered. The somewhat worn dustjacket shows tape-repaired tears along the top edge, with tears and chipping, especially along the lower edge of the dj's flaps. The jacket remains 95% whole with all of its lettering and design elements, including the author's photo, free of any significant damage. It is not price-clipped. A collectable copy.
