Brookings Insttution, Washington, DC. 1984. 215 pages. First edition, first printing with full numberline present, including the number one. Loosely laid-in is a small decorative card that reads: With Compliments of Nizar Hamdoon, Head of the Iraqi Interests Section. At the time, Nizar Hamdoon was Minister & Head of the Iraqi Interest Section, and would later become Iraqi Ambassador to the USA & United Nations; appointed by Saddam Hussein. He would also serve as Deputy Foreign Minister of Iraq during the Persian Gulf War, and under secretary of the Foreign Ministry, up until a diplomatic shakeup/retirement in 2001, just prior to George W. Bush's War on Terror declaration, that would ultimately overthrow Hamdoon's long time boss, Saddam Hussein. Hamdoon was instrumental in maintaining relations with the USA, and their support of Iraq during the Iraq-Iran war. Also laid-in is a signed letter from Hamdoon to Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Karen Elliott House, then Foreign Editor of Dow Jones Group / Wall Street Journal, introducing this book to her. Also laid-in is a photocopy of the Brooking Institutes's press release regarding their study finding that Iraq will play a vital role in Middle East politics, and in the world economy. As for the book, it is bright, tight and clean in fine, pristine condition. The DJ is bright, clean and attractive however the DJ shows a couple of small open chips along edges, and minor rubbing. A beautiful fine copy in a VG DJ, with unique and interesting, related ephemera laid-in. N° de ref. del artículo 003596
