Vanguard Press, New York. 1930. 419 pages with index. First edition, first printing. Original rare DJ with $4.50 price intact on flap. Book is tight. Binding and hinges are strong and sound. Book is VG+ with minimal rubbing to exterior. Pages and endpapers are clean. Uncommon original DJ not as nice as book but the mere fact it is present is an achievement, as the majority of these have crumbled away. DJ shows separation, but neatly in place under fresh mylar protector. DJ shows a couple of open chips, with slightly larger than small open chip at heel and crown. Pasted-in on front endpaper is a presentation card from the Harvard Legal Aid Bureau presenting their 1934 President, this very edition. The honoree is Harvard Law alum, and later, Dean of Law at the University of Buffalo Law School, Jacob "Jack" D. Hyman. At the base of the pasted-in presentation card, is a 1984 re-gift inscription. An attractive copy of the first edition, first printing in its rare, original DJ. In regard to Justice Brandeis, aside from legendary justice status, he is best remembered as a champion of social reform, legal innovation, and a Zionist lion, whose concepts of free speech and privacy still resonate today. These are his thoughts on society in general, along with his economic views.
