5 1/4 in. x 7 3/4 in., frontispiece (Caxton painting); viii, [9]-483 pp., illustrated with the frontispiece, and 19 black & white plates of reproductions of portrait engravings, printer's marks, etc. A copy rebound with dark brown leather spine and sides, and corner-pieces, with five raised bands on the spine, red and black leather title labels with gilt titling, blindstamped leaf-forms on spine, and similar bordering on the leather sides & corner-pieces, earlier marbled paper-covered boards, new headbands. The binding appears to be from the 1950's-'60's period, with the endpapers replaced. Name in ink at the top of the title-page: Chas Saroley; the book edges show some age-related staining, a few page margins show corrections in pencil, a few small stains, dusting to some margins.
