FIRST EDITION. ** Antiquarian binding features vellum covers with black text on spine and magnificently illustrated title page. Volume displays significant overall wear, and is remarkably well preserved overall. Boards display notable toning with some darkening, more to back, and show some staining along head edges. Covers show expected warping common with vellum, and have bumped edges and corners. Corners also show some chipping. Both boards exhibit two small holes along fore edge, where straps could previously have been tied? Fore edge of both boards is bowed inwards 0.5" into cover. Spine is darkened, and shows some cracking along front shoulder. Binding is overall secure. A gap is visible at gutter at first page of preface. Front pastedown appears to have library marks from another library. Title page displays gentle toning, a little more pronounced along edges, as well as a library stamp on head corner, from the St Ignatius-Kerk Bibliotheek, Nijmegen. Interior is age-toned throughout, with a damp stain to foot edge of pages, persisting throughout, 7.5" x 1.5". Inside pages are free of writing and intentional marks. Some pages display corner creasing to foot edge. Text block edges display notable toning and dust. Book may exhibit additional minor signs of age or wear. ** 516 pages. 9.25 x 14 inches. ** Antiquarian binding features vellum covers, with text on spine, as well as magnificently illustrated title page. ** This piece of Jesuitica was written by a major biblical interpreter, who was a Jesuit professor of Scripture at Alcala.
