First edition hardcover, bound in tan cloth with dark green lettering and decoration on front cover, and same to spine, is in G condition, having light rubbing to covers and spine, and slightly bumped and worn corners; home-made bookplate by former owner on first fixed endpaper; some shaking to binding (first noticed in gutter of first endpaper section, which has some cracking, and then at some other places in book: between pp. 36 and 37, 84 and photo plate); very light handling wear to pages; originally published with uncut pages, and a few are still uncut by former owner. Illustrated with b&w photographs, and decorations by Spencer Wright. An introduction to gardening in the Golden State, with chapters on many topics, such "A Planting-Time Calendar," "Rose Culture in California," and "The Mission and the Vine." Gardening. Plants.
