Phillips signed his work C. Coles Phillips, and, after 1911, simply Coles Phillips. His images of stylish women and use of negative space were well known from their appearance in advertisements and on the covers of magazines including Life and Good Housekeeping. His signature technique was the "fadeaway girl," in which a model's apparel disappeared into a same-color background, leaving her head, arms, and feet in sharp relief. The reader's eye filled in the missing outline, and from a printer's perspective it was economical as fewer colors were required.** "Postage for oversized and international shipping will be calculated by size and weight.
