Two volumes of collected works by various authors, including Joseph Spence, William Hay, and Paul Hentzner, gilt titles on twin labels, cat s paw leather boards, five raised gilt bands, gilt decoration to the compartments, marbled paste downs and end papers with armorial book plates to both volumes, marbled page edges. This is an interesting collection of works on society, history, and various other subjects. Some of the authors include Harry Beaumont, the pseudonym used by Joseph Spence, a literary scholar; William Hay, an English Whig politician; Charles Lord Whitworth, a British diplomat who was the Ambassador Extraordinary in Russia; and, Paul Hentzner, a German lawyer who published his accounts of his travels in Elizabethan England. Volume I contains; 'Crito: or, a Dialogue on Beauty', by Sir Harry Beaumont. 'A Particular Account of the Emperor of China's Gardens, near Pekin', a letter from F. Condition Report Externally Spine good condition gilt titles on twin brown and red labels, five raised gilt bands worn in places, lavish gilt decoration to the compartments, some wear to the top and bottom of Vol. I with some minor loss. Joints good condition rubbed and worn. Corners good condition bumped and worn. Boards good condition full leather cats paw boards with gilt borders to upper and lower boards, there is a small patch at the top left hand corner of Vol. II upper board with leather missing, the outer edges of the boards are decorated in gilt faded in places. Page edges good condition top edges darkened, all marbled. See above and photos. Internally Hinges good condition intact. Paste downs good condition marbled with gilt dentelles, the front paste down in each volume has an armorial book plate T. Gaisford, S.T.P . End papers good condition marbled, subsequent end papers tanned and foxed. Title good condition tanned and foxed in both volumes. Pages good condition tanned and foxed throughout.
