Hier handelt es sich um einen privaten fotomechanischen Nachdruck, mit dem sich jemand viel Mühe gemacht hat, der Buchblock ist mit Sachverstand von einem Buchbinder in Elefantenhaut gebunden. Angesichts der Seltenheit des Titels könnte man wohl vorlieb nehmen mit diesem zwar nicht eben aufwändigen, aber vollständigen und sehr gut erhaltenen Band. der Preis berücksichtigt dies 700 gr. 700. Comprised of seven chapters on the early history of the genus, the structure of the plant, how they propagate, and how to cultivate them, with a descriptive list of species to the rear. Beck hunted plants all over the British Isles, Palestine, Sweden and the Alps, and had a keen interested in Fritillaria which she cultivated herself. Shropshire county library stamp and pen markings to verso to the title page. Remains of a sticker to the rear paste down. Shropshire library stamp and the remains of a yellow library sticker to the rear endpaper. In the publisher's original blue cloth binding. Externally, generally smart. A little rubbed to the boards and the spine. Lightly bumped to the head and tail of the spine with some minor wear to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound, with bright and clean pages. First edition. Descriptions of and directions for cultivating various species. Illustrated with four full color plates, 40 black-and-white photographs, and numerous drawings in the text. Bookplates of Ruby Fleischmann (signed in the plate "Sydney E. Letts, Pinx. Sculp") and Conrad B. Link on front pastedown and endpaper, respectively; penciled signature of Ruby Fleischmann above her bookplate. According to the website of the Buckinghamshire Gardens Trust, Fleischmann was Chairman of the National Gardens Scheme and, "at its peak," her own garden was "notable for its early collection of 'old fashioned' and species rose varieties . comparable with Vita Sackville West's collection at Sissinghurst, as well as other renowned collections." She is mentioned in a number of horticultural works, most notably in those of Graham Stuart Thomas. Link was an author and professor of horticulure notable for his research on the breeding of poinsettia and kalanchoe. Small bookshop label of K J Bredon's in Brighton to bottom front pastedown.
