Size of binding: 5 in. x 7 3/4 in., halftitle, frontispiece plate ("A little Rebel", engraved by Swain), titlepage; [1-3], 4-226 pp. + 16 pp. publisher's catalogue, dated: December, 1861; second, full-page plate by Swain ("Ave Caesar"), at p. 59, with tissue guard present, and thirteen other, in-text, woodcut illustrations. Dark green, heavily design-embossed cloth, with gilt titling & designs on spine, light yellow, coated endpapers. Nineteenth century, engraved, armorial bookplate: Kimmel Park, on front paste-down, with a modern book label on the facing endpaper; early personal library/shelfmark label, on front paste-down; inked initials at top of the halftitle: H.R.H; both front & back endpapers, have been mounted on thicker paper, and the inner hinges show evidence of strengthening with paper; frontispiece is lacking the tissue guard, and shows some browning, tissue guard on second plate shows light tanning; spine ends, corners of covers have light wear.
