Cloth, 4to, 40 cm, [iv], iii, [iii], 77 facsimiles on 50 plates, each with accompanying text leaf, 19, pp index facs. This volume continues, in modified form, a work which was begun in Facsimiles of Ancient Charters in the British Museum, Parts I-IV, 1873-1878, by providing a selection, covering as wide a field of interest as possible, of charters from 1066 to the end of the 12th century. From the Preface: "The unique value of such records for the light which they throw upon legal antiquities. local and family history, and other kindred subjects is beyond question, and, although for some purposes the printed text only might suffice, the further advantage to students of palaography and diplomatics of a chronological series of typical examples in facsimiles is equally obvious.". An ex-library copy with a small sticker on the spine, a library bookplate and consultation record and stickers on the front pastedown endpaper, numbers on the verso of the title-page, a presentation bookplate on the rear pastedown endpaper; covers rubbed and scuffed with minor wear to spine-ends and a small bruise to the toop edge of the rear board, otherwise Good.
