A wonderful First Edition, First Printing (so stated) of William Faulkner's Award-winning book. The volume is in near fine condition with a very minor bump on front bottom corner and minor soiling on the page edges. The dustjacket has slight wear at the edges and is missing a small piece on the top dustjacket spine; otherwise is near fine. The original price ($4.75) is intact on the inside jacket. Faulkner, one of America's premier authors of novels, plays, poems and essays, also won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1949 and the National Book Award again in 1951 for "Collected Stories." His best-known other works include "The Sound and the Fury," "The Reivers: A Reminiscence," "As I Lay Dying," and many others. An important book by one of the world's best authors. Paperback. Condición: Fair. No Jacket. This novel won both the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award in 195. An allegorical story of World War I, set in the trenches in France and dealing ostensibly with a mutiny in a French regiment, it was originally considered a sharp departure for Faulkner. Recently it has come to be recognized as one of his major works and an essential part of the Faulkner oeuvre. Faulkner himself fought in the war, and his descriptions of it "rise to magnificence," according to The New York Times, and include, in Malcolm Cowley's words, "some of the most powerful scenes he ever conceived." Due to age and/or environmental conditions, the pages of this book have darkened. Ex-Libris and is stamped as such. Foxing is present on one or more pages. Solid binding. Moderate edgewear on the boards. Moderate shelf wear. Please note the image in this listing is a stock photo and may not match the covers of the actual item. Book. Nº de ref. del artículo: 123670355

Introduction By Michael Novak. 384 pages. paperback. CY412. Cover: Lambert. keywords: Signet Classic Paperback America Southern Literature. FROM THE PUBLISHER - A FABLE is set far from Faulkner's famous Yoknapatawpha County: the novel opens in France during the most bitter days of World War I. A young corporal, aided by twelve followers, has persuaded his unit not to join in an ordered attack, Thus is set in motion a tragically inexorable chain of events as organized society acts to crush this threat to its status quo.' A host of varied characters are drawn into a passionate drama of conscience, conflict and final confrontation between a fervent young idealist and a supremely pragmatic general who must face each other over an agonizing gulf of age, rank and philosophy of life. Winner of the National Book Award and the Pulitzer Prize, A FABLE stands among William Faulkner's most ambitious achievements, a work of beautifully controlled power and prophetic relevance. As Michael Novak writes, 'Faulkner's fable of resistance to war reads more eloquently now, during the period of the War in Vietnam. Now, perhaps, A FABLE will, be read with passion by a newer generation of Americans, alert to the issues Faulkner wrestles with and driven by poignant experience into battles he long fought on their behalf.' inventory #31507.
