CONTENTS DESCRIPTION: Privately printed, this work is quite scarce. The 15th Ohio Infantry was part of the "Horn Brigade", also known as the Iron Brigade of the Army of the Cumberland. The brigade fought in the battles of Shiloh, Stones River, Liberty Gap, Chickamauga, Missionary Ridge, Atlanta, Franklin and Nashville. The author of this work, Captain Alexis Cope, served with the regiment. His narrative is based upon unprinted diaries and letters of men he served with, as well as his own recollections. He uses extended quotations from diaries and letters of soldiers and officers. Some of the best accounts refer to the battle of Shiloh, the first hard fighting that the regiment saw. The author also records facts which reveal their poor outfitting and weapons, how they resorted to pillaging in the enemy's country. The 15th Ohio fought in Tennessee and Georgia and accompanied the Fourth Corps to Texas where it was mustered out. The last four chapters describe the Texas campaign. The regiment is recognized as one of the Fox 300 Fighting Regiments. EICHER 1079: "Cope rose to the grade of captain in the regiment and performed capable service by compiling a mountain of material into this exhaustive account. The author combines a number of diaries kept by members of the regiment. The result is a narrative that focuses on battles and places the 15th Ohio in the context of the larger war around it, in addition to providing entertaining anecdotes of camp life and the sore tedium of marches. Particularly good accounts describe the regiment's activities at Shiloh, Stones River, and in a host of actions in norther Georgia.". N° de ref. del artículo 0124051
