This work describes Hind s 1861 expedition, which "covered the Moisie River basin, for the most part south of the 52°N parallel." Hind looks at the history and geography of Labrador and northern Quebec, paying particular attention to the indigenous populations including the Montagnais, "Esquimaux", Cree, Iroquois, and Nasquapee. Hind s younger brother, William G. R. Hind (1833-1839), accompanied him on the expedition, painting the watercolours from which the striking chromolithographs were produced.
