Descripción
Longman & Co., 1841, first edition. Bound in green ribbed cloth with titles in gilt on the top board and blind-stamped borders on both boards. Very good condition, with some marks to the cloth and a little fading to the cloth on the spine and back board. Some foxing to the first three plates. pencilled notes throughout. Each plate has a reference to a later book by Rev. J.G. Cumming, The Runic and Other Monumental Remains of the Isle of Man, which was published in 1848. It is quite possible that the etchings in Kinnebrooks book were reused in Cummings, which the pencilled notes seem to suggest. With the signature of Edward Moore Gawne on the title page, who was Speaker in the House of Keys in the Isle of Man. This book has a few descriptive text pages, but mainly consists of 26 etchings, by Kinnebrook, of Runic monuments he discovered in his explorations of the Isle of Man. The etchings are on separate leaves, and have been bound in with stitching which has torn the inner edges of some of the plates, but they are all present and still held within the binding. A rare and lovely book, 22.5cm, 9 inches, tall, 14 pages, 26 plates. N° de ref. del artículo 001061
