Drawing from many sources, including Hakluyt s Voyages and Purchas s Pilgrims, Bourne describes the Elizabethan efforts to reach the Indies, the arctic voyages, English colonisation of America and the victory over the Spanish Armada in 1588. Bourne was a social reformer and writer, who made his reputation with his first published work, a thorough research and insightful biography of Sir Philip Sidney. Provenance: George G.
